Crystal Palace demonstrated remarkable resilience at Selhurst Park, twice coming from behind to secure a hard-fought draw against Everton.
The Eagles fell behind just six minutes into the match, but Ismaila Sarr leveled the score before halftime. Everton regained the lead in the second half, only for Jean-Philippe Mateta to equalize in the 77th minute, earning his side a vital point.
Manager Oliver Glasner praised his team’s fighting spirit, but it was Daniel Munoz who truly stood out with a stunning performance at wing-back. The Colombian delivered one of the most complete displays seen from a wing-back in the Premier League this season.
Going forward, Munoz was instrumental, creating three big chances and four key passes. Although those big opportunities went unconverted, his defensive work was equally impressive: he won four of six tackles and seven of eight ground duels.
While Sarr and Mateta will likely grab headlines for the comeback, Munoz was the driving force behind Palace’s fightback. However, despite his excellent form this season, Crystal Palace cannot overlook the need for depth in his position during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Finding a reliable deputy and eventually a long-term successor for the Colombian should be a top priority. Nathaniel Clyne remains a dependable professional but is showing signs of age, lacking the same intensity and attacking thrust. Brennan Johnson has struggled when asked to fill the role, appearing uncomfortable defensively and less influential in possession.
Palace felt Munoz’s absence when he was unavailable, and the club cannot afford to let such a crucial position become a weakness. Munoz is currently irreplaceable, but if the Eagles aim to compete in Europe and climb higher in the Premier League, greater depth on the right side is essential.
For now, though, Crystal Palace will continue to enjoy Munoz at the peak of his powers. He could prove absolutely pivotal to their hopes of lifting the Conference League trophy against Rayo Vallecano on May 27.
