Florentino Perez’s recent press conference dominated the day’s sports headlines. The Real Madrid president announced he would call for elections and directly attacked the media, referees, and La Liga, run by Javier Tebas, sparking a strong backlash.
The response was fierce, even from within Real Madrid’s fanbase. During a special program on Ser Radio dedicated to analyzing the press conference, commentator Julio Pulido took an incredibly hard line, suggesting that Perez’s performance disqualified him from continuing as club president.
“Florentino is seriously damaging himself today, really deeply,” Pulido said on the show. “So much so that he is no longer fit to be president of Real Madrid. A president who holds a press conference like this… honestly, I don’t think he should continue leading the club. He’s talking about journalists, then referees… He’s now putting himself in a victim’s role in a truly pitiful way. It’s just sad. He is hurting himself with his own hands.”
Real Madrid match commentator Antonio Romero also voiced his clear opinion, criticizing the president’s public statements. “Real Madrid no longer belongs to its members,” Romero stated. “The club’s owner now is Florentino. It’s not even the board, because the board had no idea what was going to happen today. For the members, the truly important thing is the team’s current sporting situation, not this blanket attack on sports media.”
