The Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to receive a definitive response from Aaron Rodgers, and the prolonged wait is drawing increasing scrutiny across the NFL. With offseason programs already in full swing, many fans expected the team to have resolved its quarterback situation by now. Instead, the uncertainty surrounding Rodgers continues to hang over Pittsburgh’s offseason plans.
That ambiguity became a more prominent topic during the second weekend of May, after reports indicated that Rodgers did not make an anticipated visit to the Steelers’ facility. Even so, the organization appears fully committed to bringing the veteran quarterback back for the 2026 season.
Despite Rodgers being 42 and clearly near the end of his career, the Steelers’ patient approach has surprised many around the league. Several fans and analysts have questioned why Pittsburgh is content to wait this long rather than pivoting toward a younger option as training camp approaches.
Recently, ESPN insider Dan Graziano shed light on the situation while discussing Pittsburgh’s quarterback plans. According to Graziano, the Steelers believe Rodgers remains their best chance to compete, based on his performance during the 2025 season.
“The answer here seems to be that they liked what they got out of Aaron Rodgers last season, believe he can do it again and thought that running it back with him was their best course of action,” Graziano wrote. “Rodgers, of course, has yet to actually re-sign in Pittsburgh, and no one knows what the holdup is. But they had Rodgers last year, they’re familiar with his quirks, and they seem fine with giving him whatever time he needs to give them an answer. No team seems to enjoy its status quo as much as the Steelers do.”
Graziano also noted that the Steelers are already well aware of Rodgers’ personality and routines, which likely explains the franchise’s patience despite the delay. Pittsburgh does not appear interested in forcing the process or pressuring the veteran quarterback publicly to make a quick decision.
Still, the ongoing situation continues to fuel debate around the franchise. Rodgers helped keep the Steelers competitive last season, but the team once again ended up in the middle of the AFC playoff race. That has led some fans to question whether Pittsburgh should focus on short-term stability rather than building for the future.
For now, though, the Steelers seem comfortable staying the course. Until Rodgers officially decides on his future, questions about Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation are expected to follow the team throughout the offseason.
