Nizhny Novgorod’s goalkeeper Nikita Medvedev launched a foul-mouthed critique at his own club’s supporters during the 29th round of the Russian Premier League (RPL) match against CSKA Moscow on Monday. The outburst was triggered by banners displayed by fans backing former head coach Aleksey Shpilevsky, who was sacked on April 28 and replaced by Vadim Garanin.
“Stay home, guys. That’s not how you support the team. Those who truly back us will come and show real support. We don’t want to see you in the stands anymore,” Medvedev said, using expletives.
The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for Paris NN, despite the team leading until the 88th minute. This loss, coupled with Shpilevsky’s recent dismissal, heightened tensions between the players and the fanbase.
Paris NN general director Vitaly Karasev stated he would discuss the incident with Medvedev. “If fans hold that opinion, it’s their right. We can’t judge them. As for Medvedev’s reaction, I haven’t spoken to him yet — emotions are running high. We’ll talk internally,” Karasev explained.
With only one round remaining in the championship, Paris NN sits in 15th place (second-last) in the RPL standings with 22 points, fighting to avoid relegation. The team’s precarious position adds context to the heated exchange.
