Jamie Carragher has publicly apologized to Luis Enrique for his drunken interview in 2024, doing so right after the Spanish coach led Paris Saint-Germain to their second consecutive Champions League final by eliminating Bayern Munich.
The Liverpool legend was part of the CBS Sports commentary team during PSG’s historic performance. After the match, Micah Richards asked club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to arrange a chat with Enrique.
“I’m not asking for much. Basically, Carragher won’t stop talking, and Luis Enrique doesn’t want to talk to us. Can you please get him to give us an interview?” said the former Manchester City player.
Al-Khelaifi jokingly promised to do what he could, and soon after, Luis Enrique appeared to speak with Carragher and the crew.
“Here is the best coach in the world,” Al-Khelaifi introduced Enrique.
“Oh my God! Hello, guys,” the Asturian greeted.
“We’re really happy you’re here, because there was a time when we thought we’d lost your friendship, and that worried us. So let’s let Carragher address the matter,” replied famous host Kate Scott.
Jamie Carragher then took the floor to apologize: “Luis Enrique, I’d like to apologize for my behavior in Dortmund in the 2024 semifinal… I was wearing a Borussia Dortmund scarf, but sometimes, as we all know, when we’ve had a few drinks, we get carried away. So, sorry. We loved your team, what you did last year, and it’s been a pleasure watching them play these last two Champions League seasons. Congratulations on reaching the final again. Well done, sir.”

“Thank you, thank you… You don’t need to apologize,” Enrique replied to the former English footballer, who in 2024 had infiltrated Dortmund’s famous “Yellow Wall” and confessed to downing eight pints of beer.
“Are you sober enough to do this, Jamie?” Kate Abdo had asked at the time.
“That might explain why I’m slurring my words—I’ve had about eight pints in the Yellow Wall,” Carragher responded.
“Honestly, it upset everyone here. First, Luis Enrique came in, said ‘hello,’ and left because Carragher was wearing a Dortmund scarf… We behaved terribly,” admitted former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

Carragher himself later admitted on the “It’s Called Soccer” podcast: “Luis Enrique, for the moment, doesn’t want to talk to us. Because last season I was in Dortmund when PSG lost to Borussia Dortmund and I was in the mixed zone with a Borussia Dortmund scarf, so that didn’t sit well with Luis at all.”
